What is MeshCore?
MeshCore is open-source firmware for small LoRa radios. The radios pass messages on to each other, so text messages can travel several kilometres – without internet and without a mobile network. It is free software under the MIT licence.
A MeshCore network consists of:
- Companion radios – your personal device. You connect to it with your phone (Bluetooth), a computer (USB) or Wi-Fi and use the MeshCore app to chat.
- Repeaters – radios at good locations (rooftops, hills) that relay messages and extend the network.
- Room servers – simple bulletin boards where people can leave posts.

- Check your country. Find your country under Countries and look at the frequency profile. If none is published yet, check your local radio regulations first.
- Get hardware. A supported LoRa board for your frequency band – see Hardware.
- Flash the firmware. Use the official web flasher – see Firmware.
- Install the app. The MeshCore app exists for Android, iOS and the web.
- Set the radio parameters of your local network and send your first message.
